Watch your mouth!

I subscribe to Comcast for our Internet connection. Not really a choice but more of a take it or leave it option. But on the Comcast home page they have this section dedicated to the news I need. One of the heads there to grab my attention was this: Home sales tumble across US. Duly panicked I read the article. Home sales dropped 2.6% last month. I don't know but to me a tumble is more than 2.6%, it is more like 40% or at least 25%. 2.6% seems more like a small speed bump or a cough or sneeze.

What language do we use in the church to convey our messages and to grab the attention of those around us? Hyperbole only works in the short term, but then makes you look foolish or careless or less than careful with the truth. If we promise something can we deliver it, if we declare something can we back it up? If we tell people that our worship is amazing or dynamic or truly relevant what happens when it isn't? Language crafts a picture of reality, we ought to be good stewards of our words.
