Makes you think
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
Our parents took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat..
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were OK.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

When Will It Be Enough?
I have never met Barack Obama. I have never met Hillary Clinton. I have never met John McCain. They would pass me on the street without a second glance. But we now know them. We see them everyday, we hear about them every day. And much we hear is embarrassing, not for them but for those who deliver these sad sound bites. You want to know about the character flaws about these three? Just listen to the radio to the new channels, read the magazine and blogs and you have more dirt than you every could have imagined. Barack is the devil and Hillary is his bride, and John is doddering old fool who will drool his way into the White House. We know about Omaba's middle name. We know Hillary doesn't have the sense to get out of race. We know John is simply the continuation of a failed policy.
What we really do not know is what they think. What do they think about the literacy level of our country? What do they think about the infrastructure of our country? What do they think about how the elderly are cared for, or what to do about the world hunger? What can realistic be done about the debt crisis in our country? Does any one have an intelligent plan to deal with immigration?
And when we are going back to being simply rude nation? We are now in the territory of being a mean nation. Did any of our founding fathers have this dream for our land, to be a nation of mean spirited people who find some joy in attacking those who desire to serve this country. Oh there is a tall stack of perks that go with being the president but there are just as many draw backs. And on the greatest is that is open season on you every day. Not just your policies and decisions - you.
And what truly blows me away is how those claim the name of Jesus speak of these people who are running for president or happened to be the president. Hillary is an easy target, why I do not know, but I have heard from the mouths of Christians venom spewed at this lady that no one desreves. I wouldn't want my wife or mother or sister or daughter spoken of in such terms. From what brothers and sisters in Christ have said about Barack Obama you would think had been spawn from hell itself. They do not even like john McCain, a man who has honorably served this nation and suffered because of it as a POW.
If there is anything that will measurable separate us from our culture it ought to be in how we publicly and privately treat and refer to those who are running for any office. It ought to followers of Christ who are leading the way into civil discussions and honoring those those who have the desire to serve. Who cares if we do not agree with them or theri policies. We are better than this. We have to be better this. It is expected of us by the one we serve.
